Abstract

At present and since the emergence of ICTs, in particular cellular telephony; we find new words, this is the case of the term phubbing, coined in Australia in 2007 from the appearance of the “smart phones” The use of social networks has made users of these look so distracted that they can not attend to the activity they are doing at the time, so that the effects are reflected in the psychological and physical, and manifest in anxiety and injury. We present the- results of a study, in which through surveys and non-participant observation. We found that the preferences or uses of social networks like Facebook, whatsapps, tweeter and its popularity occurs in the population of young people. We find an effect that has been happening for some time and that is the loss of attention to the activities that are performed at the time, which we have called the phubbing effect.
