Abstract

massive open online courses (MOOC), one of the latest modalities of the online teaching, reiterate the possibilities offered by technology to build a society where knowledge is available to everyone. Nevertheless, their development shows us how the speech of the quality of the education can be monopolized by companies that are beyond the control of the academies and governments. This situation can threaten the future of many of the institutions of higher education and strengthen the hegemony of the countries of the North. The disruptive potential of this new technology faces us to social, economic, cultural and political dilemmas that we will have to confront to regulate his development.
