Abstract

There is a long historical trajectory preceding the construction of what is now called “rural” with many large changes; however, the subordination of the country to the city has always remained a constant. It has been a long path, driven by prevailing economic, political and cultural processes for imposed demands and spaces, and by continual disputes in their material definition and direction and position in society. The purpose of this reflection is that of revisiting such identities and senses of rural, revisiting some traditional differences between the rural and urban, to account for changes that have occurred there and factors leading to them. Set in the Colombian reality, the article takes as central the importance of the territorial link in shaping rural identities, which are woven through dynamic and diffuse rural-urban interaction. Similarly, situations derived from the prolonged armed conflict in the country are included, taking into account, however, that although the history of the peoples includes wars, it also goes beyond them.
