Abstract

Many of the qualities that have been regarded as the defining attribute of humanity are now attributed to other animal species, such is the case of culture, the reason, language and tool making. More and more voices are raised that call for a new relationship between mankind and the rest of nature and cosmos. This puts us at the commitment, and the need to rethink some of the central categories of social thought to make it less anthropocentric and more inclusive: to accept, for instance, the labor of animals. For the definition of any attribute or activity as unique of our species will be required to take into account and integrate, now as in the past, the most diverse disciplines to enrich our understanding of ourselves and the others.
