Maíz transgénico, milpa y comunidad
Una mirada desde la Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca
Abstract
This essay reflects upon the milpa (Mexican diversified maize-squash-beans crops) and comunalidad (a concept that explains intense community life in Sierra Juarez, Oaxaca, villages) and relates them with the finding of transgenes in milpas in this region in 2001. We believe this finding is a privileged lens by which we may analyze global-local relations, as well as modernity and the power relations present in modern technology promoted in communal territory and Mexican peasant communities.
