Abstract

The principal aim of this paper is to present the trends imposed on the educational model of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Mexico by international agencies such as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) within the current context of economic globalization and information and communication technologies (ICT). In conclusion we present some considerations on the role that higher education should play in Mexico, from an ethical perspective and based on an educational model that is socially relevant and committed to the social development of Mexico as nation.
