Abstract

In our country democratic processes such as citizen participation in elections for popular representatives and the steps these citizens take to be part of the decision-making of such representatives, continue to present problems for their development, ranging from the high costs of an election, to inefficient management that operates without taking into account the needs and demands of people for whom it works. To do so, there are new technologies (e-democracy) that have been useful to those Latin American, North American and European countries that have implemented them to improve their democratic processes. There are even a few cases in Mexico (at the municipal level) in which technology has been used with positive results, which would be useful to consolidate at the federal and state levels. This underscores the importance of the capacity of the State and political culture of citizens to strengthen these and thereby contribute to the development of a better quality democracy.
