Abstract

Secretary’s Rehabilitation National Institute. In 17 families (8.5%), serious domestic violence was detected: 5.5% in families with children from 1 to 12 years old and 3% in children older than 12 years. The disabled children with behavioral disorders, mainly male, had 6.8 times more risk to have been exposed to domestic violence than those with no behavioral disorders. By its structure and dynamics, the families with domestic violence and children behavioral disorders were distinguished by exerting a chaotic kind of control (sometimes rigid and other limitless) and by performing mixed roles composed by traditional roles (the mother carries on the caregiver role, the father the one of supplier) and the idiosyncratic roles (the child has assigned the “ill†role because of his disability and he relates symbiotically to the mother).
