Abstract

this research addresses some aspects interposed in mathematical learning from the perspective of higher education students. To this end, the methodological- theoretical approach for social representations was used, which was deemed as pertinent to study subjective and sociocultural economical features and analyze the influence they have upon the educational environment. Specifically, those social representations that the students have built concerning mathematics are presented and examined as well as the way such representations influence learning according to their own accounts. With this objective semi structured interviews to Social Sciences students in the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana campus Xochimilco were carried out.
