Abstract

This chapter will be on Mexico, where with the exception of the Zapatista movement, the Left in general is much weaker than in South America, the workers movement has always been a junior partner of the more numerous but more conservative peasants movements and of course it has been the prime objective of almost a century of PRI repression, coercion, corruption, co-optation and corporatism. Nevertheless, there have been important struggles in the recent past on the issues of self-management and workers control, which deserve to be remembered and highlighted as an important part of the Latin American experience.
