Abstract

With the expansion of the industrial reserve army, the Guerrero neighborhood was transformed from being the railway neighborhood of Mexico City into an immense warehouse of impoverished proletariat. Following the earthquake of 1985 a group of single women set about rebuilding their homes in the neighborhood, using self-build methods. With no other resources than a dream and backed by self-governance techniques, not only did they build their own houses but reconstructed their lives, on the cost of great personal sacrifice.
