The study examines the consequences that local climate change, caused by environmental degradation, has had over the lacustrine area of Xochimilco, Mexico. This is done by using ethnographic methods to record and examine the local perceptions of climate change, as well as the adaptations that local producers have generated in order to mitigate its effects. This approach reveals that changes in local weather patterns will not only impact the the welfare and livelihoods of local inhabitants, as some of medium term implications inside at a regional scale. It is suggested that the local climate change that Xochimilco has undergone is a useful resource in assessing some of the predicted scenarios for global climate change.
