El movimiento #YoSoy132 y la democratización de los medios
Abstract
A new social movement emerged in Mexico during the 2012 election campaign. The media assault on students from the Universidad Iberoamericana triggered an outpouring of solidarity on social networking sites and an avalanche of public demonstrations joined by students from the public universities. Indignant at the media manipulation of polls in favor of a single candidate, they demanded the democratization of the media, among other demands for reform. This article discusses concepts including: crowds, new social movements, and instant crowds or “flashmobs”. It also considers the issue of the communications media included in the so-called “counter-report” issued by #Yosoy132, a document that offers a citizens’ critique of the most recent annual report from the president.
