Abstract

This paper aims to review the electoral process in Mexico, 2012, according its specific political context from the point of view of the sociological theory of the State. This process have showed that it is consolidating a new kind of bipartisan political system linked to two connected processes: 1) The strengthening of a conservative oligarchy, closed and exclusionary, that used all his power to close and control the electoral system; 2) The exclusion of the left party as a real possibility to reach and rule the presidency of the Republic. This implies a narrow electoral democracy based on a logic that preserves and favors the local ruling class by oligarchic interests. Furthermore this oligarchy is tied with global capital and is often linked to crime organizations. The logic of this social process is based on the predominance of a patrimonial political structure which contradicts the liberal principles of state and law as well as the precepts of the modern citizenship.
