Efectos de la construcción de la Línea 12 del Metro en la urbanización de la delegación Tláhuac
Abstract
This paper provides an analysis of the socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the communities in the municipality of Tlahuac, where the local government plans to build a segment of the Mexico City subway line 12, along with a terminal and other facilities related to the project. Important changes are foreseen regarding land use, the ecological context, landscape, as well as the economy and quality of life for community members involved in the agricultural, fishing and business sectors. The new infrastructure will promote an expansion of the urban sprawl without proper planning or sufficient public services, affecting the productive, social, and cultural lives of these communities. We also present some of the opinions of the inhabitants most deeply rooted in these areas of ecological reserve that form part of the chinamperia and lacustrine zones of Mexico’s central basin and still retain their characteristic landscape and way of life.
