Abstract

This article shows how all reference systems organize, categorize and describe space in order to articulate and structure it. Each culture develops its own notion based on the delineation of certain material and/or symbolic elements positioned as privileged points. The need to rethink spatial and socio-historical referents is proposed, as well as the need to develop a new ethic and a new politics that will allow us to build a world where all of humanity has real potential for advancement; the construction of a planet where the South ceases to be defined by poverty and underdevelopment through the building of relationships of solidarity and cooperation across communities and among men. For these reasons, it essential that the consumption patterns that currently prevail in Northern countries be modified. Globalization has led us to understand that our destinies are woven together, a new policy could lead us to build them in solidarity.
